Covered in blood, Amy drove back home and arrived at the Dunne house late at night, collapsing into Nick’s arms as cameras flashed. The country celebrated her return as a miracle. She told the police that Desi had kidnapped her and kept her prisoner for months. Her story, filled with horrifying details, seemed believable, especially given Desi’s past obsession with her.
Nick knew she was lying. He could see it in her eyes the moment she returned. But he also knew he couldn’t prove it. The evidence supported her story completely, and if he accused her publicly, no one would believe him. When he confronted her privately, she admitted everything — that she had framed him, that she killed Desi, and that she returned because she saw him finally becoming the husband she wanted. She told him that they were bound together forever now, because any move he made against her would destroy him.
Nick was horrified. He wanted to leave, to expose her, to end it all. But Amy revealed another secret — she was truly pregnant this time. She had used Nick’s sperm from their earlier attempts at fertility treatment before her disappearance. Now she was carrying his child. The revelation trapped Nick completely. Nick was forced to play the role of the grateful husband and soon-to-be father.
